Class 373 Eurostar Trans-Manche Super Train
The Eurostar is an adaptation of the French Train à Grande Vitesse (TGV), which was designed by Alstom and SNCF and entered service in 1981 on the Paris-Lyon route.
Before a successful branding exercise of the Channel Tunnel passenger service gave us Eurostar™ (an identity created by the pioneering French designer Roger Tallon) in 1994, the train sets were in fact known as Trans-Manche Super Trains.
For Eurostar, techincal changes to the TGV were necessary because Britain’s railways have different platform configurations, smaller tunnel and bridge openings, different power delivery, signalling, communication systems and loading gauge.
The distinctive noise of a Eurostar in motion, is caused by its enormous cooling fans. High-peformance vehicles produce heat that needs to be displaced. A working Eurostar might produce the equivalent of up to 1.3 megawatts of thermal energy from its twelve 1.1 megawatt traction motors. Serious effort is needed to keep the motors cool, especially in tunnels, hence the whine.

Avant qu'un exercice de marque réussi du service passagers du tunnel sous la Manche ne nous donne Eurostar (une identité créée par le designer français pionnier Roger Tallon) en 1994, les rames étaient en fait connues sous le nom de Trans-Manche Super Trains.
Pour Eurostar, des changements techniques au TGV étaient nécessaires parce que les chemins de fer britanniques ont différentes configurations de plate-forme, des ouvertures de tunnel et de pont plus petites, une alimentation électrique, une signalisation, des systèmes de communication et un gabarit de chargement différents.
Le bruit distinctif d'un Eurostar en mouvement est causé par ses énormes ventilateurs de refroidissement. Les véhicules haute performance produisent de la chaleur qui doit être déplacée. Un Eurostar en état de marche pourrait produire l'équivalent de 1,3 mégawatts d'énergie thermique à partir de ses douze moteurs de traction de 1,1 mégawatt. Un effort sérieux est nécessaire pour garder les moteurs au frais, en particulier dans les tunnels, d'où le gémissement.

European orders
My dear customers in the European Union are greatly valued and I appreciate all your past and future business.
Sadly, the UK is no longer a member of the EU and doing business is not so easy, proving particularly difficult for small business.
I am, of course still happy to send orders to the EU. Royal Mail prices have increased, but since most orders are relatively low value, it seems easy enough to post items.
However, if your delivery address is in an EU country please be aware that you may be asked to pay additional duty or fees before you can receive your goods. Most seem to be in region of €13 to €20 in custom charges.
It is very difficult to find information about what will happen when small parcels are sent from the UK to the EU, this page will be updated as the situation becomes clearer.
