Class 456 1990 - 2022
24 Third rail Electric Multiple Units built in York by BREL between 1990 and 1991
Built to work with 455s as 10 car units for the Central operating area of Network SouthEast. Basically an updated version of the Class 455 but with a newer front end design similar to Class 321s.
In 2014 the 456s were withdrawn from Southern and re-leased to SWT where they received a heavy refurbishment and started to work with 455s, which they were originally ordered and designed to do.
They were finally retired from service in January 2022.
Here 456024 is shown in all the liveries it has worn since its release.
1. Network SouthEast
2. Connex South Central
4. South West Trains Red "Metro" livery.
